The Power of Creativity

Creativity is one of the human species ultimate tools, and the dexterity of our hands allows putting into reality our creative ideas. Everyone is born creative. Basically since the first days of our species, we have been acting creative. In primordial times, humans built spears and designed strategies to hunt in bands. Since then, we have created over thousands of languages, thousands of civilizations, new ways to move around and communicate better and quicker, and have also landed on the moon. Creativity is one of the most important characteristics of being a human. It is part of what makes us successful as individuals and as a species. But why is being creative so successful?

Success in creativity can come in many ways and in many levels, from an everyday creative action to a renowned idea. For example, when I play soccer I need to create new actions as the game goes by. I have to think about what is the best move of the moment, and how do I do it. Sometimes, I have to give a short easy pass, sometimes I have to send a through ball between my opponents. The more I practice and play the more I am able to effectively succeed in my creative abilities during a game; or for a more eminent example of creativity, there is Bill Gates’ new toilet design, in which it doesn’t use water during its human waste elimination process.

Being creative expands our perceptions, it helps us solve problems and find new ways around obstacles because they are not just obstacles but also an opportunity to be creative. It has allowed us to survive and adapt to new environments, generate new ideas, explore new interests, and discover new things. It is where we make new exquisite meals, create beautiful art, solve math problems, and be the first one to do a backflip on a skateboard.

  1. Michael,

It's interesting you note that everyone is born with creativity, I cover a similar idea on how creativity affects level of success between individuals in my project. I liked how you differentiated little-c/everyday creativity and big-c/major creativity without directly referencing it.. You cover how creativity affects our daily lives using the example of a soccer game and a new invention in a nice short blog. Though I feel like the techniques you use to win a game involves strategy more than creativity. The first person creative enough to think about doing a backflip must've been totally crazy.
