Hello and welcome to the Creativity in Everyday Academic Life blog. This blog is a place for students in ENC 1101 to share their final course projects. The Use of Creativity to Explore New Ideas
ReplyDeleteCreativity is used to discover new ideas from original thoughts. An individual may not realize it, but they progress through different stages of creativity in a lifetime. As talked about in “Beyond Big and Little: The Four C Model of Creativity” by James C. Kaufman and Ronald A. Beghetto provide a model they discovered so that individuals can view their progression through everyday creativity to eminent creativity. When individuals progress through levels, they begin to explore more complex ways of thinking and it allows for discoveries and problem-solving. The Four C model that was presented is composed of "little-c", "mini-c", "pro-c", and "big-c" progression levels. Personally, I find myself using everyday creativity throughout my life as I progress through creative levels. I have been faced by many challenges including entering a sport or new school setting and having had to progress through the “little-c” stage in order to be successful and creative throughout the difficult times. I highly encourage students to become involved in extracurricular activities to force personal innovation and challenges. Lots of factors contribute to everyday creativity including the observation of others and applying thinking skills to solve problems or issues. It is important for individuals to discover their inner creativity, surround themselves with positive role models, and have the ability to apply their everyday skills. Certain individuals have the ability to progress through creative levels due to their brain structure and function. Depending on how the brain is wired and able to solve problems in a more creative matter, determines the success of an individual’s future in innovation.
In “Brain Structure Links Everyday Creativity to Creative Achievement” the authors apply the idea of the Four C Model by considering the brain structure and function. Their study involved investigating how the brain structure affected everyday creativity presented as “little-c” in the model. In “Creative Days: A Daily Diary Study of Emotion, Personality, and Everyday Creativity” Tamlin S. Conner and Paul J. Silivia consider “little-c” creativity as well. Everyday creativity included how individuals solved problems during the day and simply ideas they created. They based most of their research off of college students and their academic innovation. In college, creativity is used everywhere and extremely necessary if students want to succeed in the future. Success comes from the ability to think outside the box and then apply the creative knowledge. When you think outside the box you allow your brain to explore more ideas. Academic innovation is in high demand to prepare students for the real world and flourish in the future. The 21st century is on the path to improve the creative young minds to solving future problems and discovering new ideas.
